Tailwaters Fly Fishing Company is located in the lively Uptown District of Dallas, on the northeast corner of McKinney Ave and Fairmount Street. We are three blocks north of the Crescent Hotel, and across the street from Gold's Gym.
The Idea Behind Tailwaters Fly Fishing Company, LLC
The idea behind Tailwaters Fly Fishing Company, LLC (TFFC) was simple: take an established adventure travel business and marry it with a premiere retail establishment to offer customers top rate customer service, an elite line of fly fishing gear, and give customers the opportunity to travel the world. Founded in January of 2007, we are proud to be the only full service fly shop and travel company in the State of Texas.
In April 2005, founders David Leake and Collins Illich were in the Indian Ocean, fishing in the Seychelles, and conversation turned to the possibility of how they would run the perfect fly shop in the Dallas area. The key ingredients, they felt, were great customer service, an inventory selection that reflected the needs of both the novice angler and the expert, and maintaining an all-star staff. The more they talked, the more excited they became. Tailwaters Fly Fishing Company was born, with the vision of two fly-fisherman, balancing on a tuna tower, waiting for the next big catch.
Brent Boone was brought into the fold, and the team was complete. The shop would be different from any experience the Texas consumer had ever seen before. Most importantly, the consumer would be greeted with unparalleled customer service in an atmosphere that was friendly, excited, and able to accommodate. The whole transaction, whether it was a simple fly purchase or a two-thousand dollar rod and reel purchase, would be an experience for the consumer, an experience that emphasized the lifestyle of the fly-fisherman. Tailwaters sells more than flies and reels. Tailwaters is a lifestyle.
TFFC stocks all of the finest manufactures in the industry including Sage, Scott, R.L. Winston, G.Loomis, Temple Fork Outfitters, Abel, Tibor, Hatch, Ross, Lamson, Rio, Scientific Anglers, Umpqua, Simms, Patagonia, and many more. The shop is always loaded with inventory. TFFC believes that an angler should be able to walk into the shop and purchase a blue gill fly or a rod, reel, and flies for an exotic bill fishing destination and expect the equipment to be on hand.
At TFFC, you will find a relaxed environment, one that you feel at ease with browsing or shooting the bull with the staff. We encourage our customers to handle our product because we believe that the customer is best served by physically holding the product, to know the feel of a rod before purchasing it. Thirsty? We always have hot coffee and cold beer.
