Puerto Jimenez
Osa Peninsula, Golfo Dulce Costa Rica
Costa Rica is the worlds greatest eco-tour and bluewater fishing paradise and there is no better destination for the all encompassing Costa Rican adventure than with Crocodile Bay Lodge. The expansive lodge complex is located on the Pacific side of southern Costa Rica and on the Osa Peninsula near the town of Puerto Jimenez. Golfo Dulce, a bay which separates the Osa Peninsula from mainland Costa Rica is the headquarter for one of todays most prolific sailfish fisheries, as well as an amazingly diverse inshore ecosystem with unbelievable opportunity for other shallower water species.
This corner of Costa Rica is just north of Panama, and is home to Corcovado National Park, one of the last old growth lowland rainforests on the planet. It is an ecologically diverse region with some of the most beautiful beaches and calmest water in Costa Rica. Once a huge banana farming region, the Puntarenas Province of Costa Rica now serves as a tourist hub for sportfishermen, surfers, and eco-tourists.
Crocodile Bay Lodge is our recommendation of choice for family groups or couples looking for the nicest accommodations available in southern Costa Rica and an endless array of non-angling / eco-tour options without compromising the quality in fishing. The lodge offers all the amenities of a five star resort and is the perfect playground for youngsters and the ideal relaxation spot for non-angling companions. With over twenty organized eco-tours, a fleet of forty + fishing boats, amazing dining, a 5,000 sqf spa facility, and the dense tropical rainforest to explore, Crocodile Bay Lodge grants to greatest all around Costa Rican vacation. CBL is also a popular destination for corporate groups and events.
Crocodile Bay Lodge operates over forty sportfishing boats ranging from 35 foot Strikes to 17 foot flats skiffs for fishing the inland rivers and shorelines of Golfo Dulce. Their captains are well versed in both conventional gear and with the fly rod. Crocodile Bay Lodge is the ideal destination for casual anglers looking to take the family out trolling or casting with conventional spinning tackle, or for the more intensive anglers wanting the fish one of the worlds greatest billfish fisheries.
The calm waters of Golfo Dulce are especially attractive to those landlubbers who dont handle rough seas well, and the myriad of other marine life makes the day on the water always an education. Humpback and pilot whales blow geysers high in the air, sea turtles sun on the surface, while Manta rays free-jump and belly-flop. The most awesome sight anglers may encounter at CBL is a pod of killer whales often seen migrating along the coast.
Pacific Sailfish are definitely the main angling attraction between the months of December March, however the diversity and flexibility of the inshore program within Golfo Dulce truly makes Crocodile Bay Lodge a year round fishing operation. In addition to the sailfish, the area also sees a number of blue and black marlin and the occasional striped marlin as well. The highlight of the fishery for many anglers is the inshore fishing within the bay for huge roosterfish, dorado, cubera snapper, yellow-fin tuna, snook, big-eye tuna, rainbow runner, grouper, and amberjack among many others. Giant schools of bonito also will bust bait in the gulf, great game for a fly rodder. Golfo Dulce also has an estuary river system for anglers looking for some light tackle fishing from smaller and traditional flat bottom skiffs. The options for the style of fishing you choose are endless at Crocodile Bay Lodge!
Crocodile Bay Lodge sits on forty-four acres of beautiful beachfront rainforest adjacent to the Pacific Ocean and the calm waters of Golfo Dulce. The lodges enormous fleet of fishing boats is moored off the beach next to a 850 foot pier. Crocodile Bay Resort structures are strategically located throughout the landscaped property with the main building housing the restaurant, bar and reception area. Crocodile Bay Resort is staffed by friendly, English-speaking and experienced personnel guaranteed to make your stay an exciting and unforgettable one.
After a day on the water, or returning from a thrilling adventure tour, enjoy your favorite cocktail or beverage at the open bar, take a relaxing swim (pool has a swim up bar), soak in the Jacuzzi, or dine in the lodges elegant air-conditioned restaurant. The resorts forty-five air-conditioned rooms are spacious, each having two queen-sized beds and a private deck. Every room is uniquely decorated with the local Tico flavor, including hand carved wood-work and many have private jacuzzi baths. All rooms have hot water with full shower/bath and are a two minute walk from the beach.
In addition to the standard rooms, CBL also has secluded owners cabins that are often available for guest usage. These are self contained proper houses with multiple bedrooms, full kitchens and common areas. The owners cabins are tucked away in the jungle away from the main lodge complex and are an ideal option for guests looking for a little additional privacy.
