Private Lessons For All Skill Levels

Tailwaters offers private fly fishing instruction for everyone from the novice to the seasoned pro. These intimate lessons give the student the advantage of instruction custom-tailored to their needs, with the flexibility to schedule a time that suits today's busy lifestyle. Tailwaters has two FFF Certified Casting Instructors on staff to help you learn the art of fly fishing, or bring your angling skills to the next level!

For the BEGINNER, fly fishing may seem intimidating, but the sport is not as difficult as it may appear. Our experienced staff walks students through the first crucial stages of becoming a fly fisherman, and introduces them to the basic skills of this beautiful sport. We can teach the beginning fly fisherman (or woman!) everything they need to become a successful angler, from equipment, knots, and the basics of the sport, including the most important and recognizable aspect of fly fishing: the cast.

Our INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED classes go beyond basic instruction to enable students to improve and hone their fly fishing skills. Lessons are customized to help them achieve any specific goals they may have. Whether it's working on the double-haul, learning new and effective ways of rigging equipment on one's own, or getting the 'rust' for an upcoming trip, our knowledgeable staff will prepare students for any fishing adventure!

$75.00 per hour, single student
$100.00 per hour, two students
$125.00 per hour, three students

Location and Times:

Lessons typically take place at Tailwaters Fly Fishing retail location on McKinney Avenue in Uptown Dallas, but can be arranged offsite as well. While the scheduling of lessons is very flexible, Tailwaters tries to devote time prior to and after open hours of the shop- typically 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Group Lessons

Tailwaters offers group lessons that are easily customized to the skill level and number of attendees. Instruction can be arranged to cover everything from basic knots to specific techniques and equipment used to catch a particular species of fish. These lessons can be held at nearly location an organization chooses. We have given clinics at the shop, in gymnasiums, on country club lakes, and high rise office buildings. The most popular lessons take place outdoors and on the water, but any large, open space can be utilized for casting instruction with equal effectiveness. We also offer entomology (insect), equipment and tactics seminars that are very informative and help take your fly selection and efficiency on the water to the next level.

Celebrity Clinics

Periodically Tailwaters Fly Fishing will host special schools and events with celebrities from the fly fishing world, giving our customers a unique opportunity to learn from living legends. Since we opened our doors in 2007, we have hosted events with Flip Pallot and Lefty Kreh, and other greats such as Ed Jaworoski and Chico Fernandez. These schools are designed to allow the students maximum time to interact and learn from masters of the sport. While these clinics are very practical, and the students take away amazing amounts of information, they also prove to be as memorable as any fishing trip!
