FISHING

Like many of the other atolls in the Seychelles, Providence Atoll is a true fly fishing wilderness. The vast flats, enormous lagoon system, and feeder channels offer fly fishermen the opportunity to wade 345 km² of pristine sand flats, turtle grass banks, surf areas, and lagoon edges while targeting a multitude of species. Anglers can expect to target and sight cast to giant trevally, bumphead parrotfish, triggerfish, bluefin trevally, milkfish, Indo-Pacific permit, napoleon wrasse, bonefish, grouper, snapper, barracuda, and much more.

Providence Atoll is known for its fantastic offshore fishing for sailfish and yellowfin tuna that can be done from the skiffs or the aft deck of Quo Vadis. The offshore species include yellowfin tuna, milkfish, sailfish, wahoo, and dogtooth tuna, to name a few. So whether you’re looking to cast your fly at tailing bumphead parrotfish, that trophy GT you have been dreaming about, or you’re looking for a complete saltwater experience, Providence Atoll is a great choice. All fly fishing trips to Providence are accompanied by three experienced fly fishing guides and three purpose built flats skiffs that are equipped with poling platforms and poles, and will be skippered by experienced, world class and professional Alphonse Fishing Co. guides. Angling teams will be split up into groups of two anglers per skiff and guide.

TRAVEL

PROVIDENCE ATOLL OPERATES ON A MONDAY-MONDAY SCHEDULE.

The most popular and efficient way to travel from the United States to the Seychelles is via Dubai, UAE on Emirates Airlines, but can also be accomplished via London, Paris, or Frankfurt with Air Seychelles. There are also options via Doha, Qatar with Qatar Airways.

After spending Saturday evening in Dubai, enjoy a fun dinner in town or relaxing at the lavish Dubai airport Emirates lounge. Anglers then depart on Emirates Airlines for a four-hour direct flight to Victoria, Mahe Island, Seychelles arriving on Sunday. Once on Mahe, guests check in to one of our recommended hotels for overnight. The following morning, guests transfer by taxi to the IDC hanger to catch the 1 hour 45 minute charter flight to Providence Atoll. The program utilizes a beautiful twin engine Beechcraft turboprop for the flight to/from Providence with an occasional refuel or provision delivery stop on Alphonse Island.

WHEN TO GO / SEASONALITY

The Quo Vadis catamaran operates a limited season during select weeks from January - May. Fishing is optimal during all months the operation is open. There is really no “best time” to go; however, understanding tides is critical when picking your week relative to what species you want to target and the style of fishing you prefer. We will walk you through tidal analysis and pick the best week for you and your group.

Providence Atoll is closed for the windy and rainy season during the summer months. The windy and rainy season is well defined, starting abruptly in May and concluding abruptly in September. Because Seychelles Outer Islands are only seven degree south of the equator, the quality of the weather and fishing remains consistent throughout the season. There really is no “perfect time” to visit Farquhar while the season is open; however, we always discuss tide charts for prospective weeks our clients are considering.

NON-ANGLING ACTIVITIES

Fishing is the predominant activity on Providence, but the catamaran is equipped with diving and snorkeling equipment as well as stand up paddleboards and kayaks for guest use.
