Garbutt’s Fishing Lodge | Punta Gorda, Belize

Southern Belize is a Mecca for permit fishing, and Garbutt’s Fishing Lodge in Punta Gorda is like a home away from home. We could not be more excited to head down there after the fishery has been rested for more than a year.

Why come to Belize with us?

The permit fishing in southern Belize speaks for itself. The fishing combined with the laid-back people, beautiful environment, and great vibe makes southern Belize an all-time favorite for us. Summer typically features happy fish and good weather.

The fishery in Punta Gorda is unique in that it consists of a number of “outside” pancake flats and cayes, in addition to a huge lagoon system “inside.” Having both options makes the permit fishing in Punta Gorda very consistent. The lagoon can be fished in virtually any conditions, as it is protected from wind and waking permit can still be seen in overcast conditions. The outside flats often attract large schools of permit. Several other species such as bonefish are available, and the summer tarpon fishing is another bonus.

The Garbutts are awesome guides that have become good friends over the years. They grew up on these waters and know the area better than anyone. Their lodge is unpretentious and priced right. Will Graham, the photographer who shot all of the images below, will be along for the trip to shoot Garbutt’s lodge — and hopefully some hero shots as well!
